Jobless Claims
Initial Jobless Claims, which measures individuals filing for unemployment benefits for the first time, rose 12,000 to 248,000. We expected to see this number rise after seeing a low reading during the Juneteenth holiday week.
Continuing Claims, or those that continue to receive benefits after their initial claim, fell 13,000 to 1.72M. This metric has been moving lower and is now that the lowest level since February. Based on the ADP numbers, it could signal people getting hired, but also could mean that people’s benefits are expiring.
