Initial Jobless Claims
Initial Jobless Claims were released showing that individuals filing for unemployment benefits for the first time last week decreased to below 800k, which is a nice improvement. Continuing Claims, or those that continue to receive benefits, improved by 1M to 8.4M, which is the lowest since March. One thing to remember is after the 26 weeks of regular benefits expire, those receiving benefits can apply for PEUC (Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation), which extends their benefits another 13 weeks. That figure increased more than 500k, so the gain is not as good as the headline would show, but still an improvement.
